Why does my dog have a big red sore on his stomach near his nipple?

That is quite odd looking. Yes, you should be concerned. If it isn't bothering him (it doesn't seem itchy or painful ) and he doesn't have any symptoms of illness (he's not lethargic, no vomiting or diarrhea, no coughing or sneezing, normal activity and appetite etc) then it is not an emergency, but do take him in to your vet in the next few days if you can. It may be an infection of some kind, or it could be a skin tumor of some sort. (which may be a benign tumor). I would recommend Oscar be seen by his veterinarian to have this evaluated further. He may need topical or oral antibiotics or other medications as needed. I hope this helps!

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This looks like a focal infection. At least in this picture it appears to be superficial. Make sure that this is not from urine getting into that part of the skin and if it is, have him evaluated by a veterinarian. You can try to use a medicated shampoo containing chlorhexidine twice weekly for 2 weeks. If there is no improvement or in the meantime this appears to be getting worse, have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Good luck and have a good day!

I would recommend he be evaluated by his regular veterinarian to determine what this lesion May be, and any treatment that he may need. Good luck!

It's hard to say for certain from the photo, but it may be a type of skin tumor. I am concerned that it appears to be a very dark red color and is hairless. Your vet may suggest a needle aspirate or biopsy to determine if the growth is cancerous or not. It may be more apparent in real life that this is something else like an insect bite or sting, or a skin infection. A veterinary physical exam is the best recommendation.

In the picture, it looks a bit pink around the area, but I don't see any signs of infection. At this point in time, I recommend just observing it for now. I don't think it requires a vet visit. Keep an eye on her when she goes outside to potty, and check the area daily. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus then it's infected and she needs to see the vet. Hi and thanks for using Boop by Petco! Sorry to hear about Remy. This looks like a bacterial skin infection, often called staph pyoderma/bacterial dermatitis. I would advise taking Remy to your veterinarian and let them gather a history and perform an examination. Based on their findings, they will probably advise treating this infection. This may involve a medicated shampoo, oral antibiotics, anti-itch medicines, etc. Good luck with Remy. This type of skin infection is NOT contagious to other dogs or people.

That looks like a tumor that needs to be seen by your vet, especially since it is so close to the nipples/mammary gland, and is irregular in shape and irritated. I would have Ginger seen by your vet and a sample of the tumor taken (or it removed completely and sent to a lab) to determine the cell type and any additional care needed.

In the picture, it appears that the affected skin is bumpy and then there is quite a bit of redness around the edge. It’s possible that it could be a wart-like growth, but because of the amount of inflammation (causing the redness) going on, I would recommend taking Mac to the vet for a closer look. The vet will also look closely at all of Mac’s other skin (and mouth and other mucous membranes) to see if there are any other affected areas. They may be able to diagnose or have a better guess as to what’s going on, and discuss treatment options if any need to happen. Until he sees the vet, it would be helpful to have him wear an e-collar/cone so he can’t lick the area anymore. Licking will increase the inflammation and can skew how the vet evaluates the area. The area around the nipple appears to be a little red and irritated. If Bindi is licking the area it may be causing her some discomfort.
