My old dog is in pain and pulled staples. Is it time for euthanasia?

Poor girl! So you have a few options. If she is just holding it up but not crying out, you may just consider medical management and not euthanize her as long as she is playing eating and drinking normally. I would make sure she is on a high quality joint supplement like flexadin or dasuquin. I would also have a vet prescribe her an anti-inflammatory like rimadyl or galliprant. You could give that on days she is really painful. If she is only having pain in one leg and the other leg is normal, you could consider having that leg amputated. Dogs do amazing with 3 legs as long as the other is normal. There is also a surgery called an FHO with gets rods of the hip joint of that is the problem area. You could also look into that as an option. Another option would be to look for an alternative or integrative vet who practices acupuncture and herbal therapy. These can be wonderful for pain relief and mobility. I would only decide to euthanize her when you feel she has more bad days than

I am so sorry Ben is having such a hard time! It's so hard when you get close to the time to say goodbye to beloved pet, especially since we are never ready to let them go. I work for a home euthanasia service, so I face this question a lot with my clients. I recommend looking at the animal's quality of life and making a list of five things the animal loves to do. If they are no longer doing at least two of them, then their quality of life has declined to a point where euthanasia should be considered. I wouldn't wait until Friday for Ben to be seen. I would have him seen sooner, and discuss with the vet if a different mediation may help his symptoms, such as Rimadyl, or a combination of medications such as Rimadyl and Tramadol. If your vet doesn't think those are viable medications for him, then I would consider letting him go peacefully and without further pain. Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Jade! This is the hardest part of owning pets. You know what is best for your pet. You know her quality of life better than anyone ever will. Your Vet and we can help you decide when it is time. I consider a decreased/poor quality of life when the bad days out weigh the good days. When an animal no longer hangs out with the family, can't get around well, has vomit, diarrhea or won't eat, is crying or whimpering then I consider that a poor quality of life. I don't think it is wrong to try some time with pain medications to see if you can improve her mobility. But if it doesn't work and you think she is in pain then it might be time to consider putting her to sleep. I wish you and Jade the best!

If it is not time to put her down, I recommend to call your vet and ask about options for that tumor. It could be causing her pain and could be infected. Sometimes antibiotics and a bandage can help the skin to heal at least for a little while and gain some more time for Sweetie. In the USA, vets are considered an essential business so they are not all closed. I recommend to call around to find a vet who is open and can take care of Sweetie. I hope this helps.
