My dog is constipated for 4 days after diarrhea. What should I do?

Pet's info: Dog | Pekingese | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 3 months old | 6 lbs

Hello! My dog had diarrhea for 3 days after multivitamins. We were done with diarrhea with diet and probiotics. But the diarrhea was followed with constipation! She hasn't pooped for 4 days! She is completely fine. Good appetite, playing, sleeping normally. She has gases as well. What should I do?

As long as Jessie is otherwise acting normally you can try to give her some canned pumpkin as this will often help with constipation. If Jessie still does not have a bowel movement it would be a good idea to schedule a recheck appointment with your veterinarian as she may need an enema. Please note that over the counter enemas can be very dangerous for pets, so please don't use these. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach and I hope the issue resolves quickly for Jessie!

You can safely add canned green beans or canned pumpkin to her diet to help her go to the bathroom. You can also add 1/8 teaspoon of miralax 2-3 times a week to her food to help her go. Antibiotics can cause an upset stomach. IF she does not have a BM within the next 24 hours, then I would see your vet to see if an enema is needed.
