My dog has a new irritated bump near his nipple. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 8 years and 10 months old | 11.2 lbs

My dog has a bump that has formed in the last week to the left of one of his nipples. It doesn’t seem to bother him, but it looks irritated. Any ideas? Thank you.

I can see that Sir Nicholas has a small, raised, dark lesion by his nipple. This can be a mass under the skin, which may be malignant (likely to spread) or benign (unlikely to spread). I recommend having this area looked at by a vet. They will be able to either remove the mass completely and determine exactly what it is, or take smaller samples using a needle. I hope this helps and that Sir Nicholas is doing well!
