My dog has a new irritated bump near his nipple. What should I do?

This could be of a benign skin growth, a cyst, or something more concerning would be a skin melanoma which can be a more aggressive skin tumor. Your options are to monitor this for any change in size, discharge, bleeding, or pain. Or you could have your veterinarian do an exam on Dink and discuss removing it now. If you decide to monitor it and it changes at all then you could have your veterinarian become involved. If it does not change in size or appearance it is more likely to be benign. However if it does change in size I'd be more concerned about something more serious and it needs to be removed.

This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. There is not likely anything you can do at home for Ruth’s. Skin masses and blister type lesions can be benign but they can also be a skin cancer called a mass cell tumor. Additionally, masses in the mammary chain can be breast cancer. I recommend to have Ruthy examined by her veterinarian who may need to aspirate these masses to look at the cells under a microscope. I recommend to have Sir Eli examined by the veterinarian. Skin masses can be many things but red raised masses are especially concerning for a skin cancer called a Mast Cell tumor. Your veterinarian will need to collect a sample of cell to examine under the microscope to determine what this is and if further treatment is needed. Have this checked out soon.
