My dachshund puppy fell and yelped. Should I worry about her back?

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund miniature | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 11 days old

Hi there! We just brought our miniature dachshund home two days ago. We're experienced pet owners, but always had big dogs. She is 10 weeks old and just fell off my lap (I was seated at a regular chair). I did not see how she landed due to the table cloth, but we heard the impact and then a second later she yelped. Do we need to be concerned? We read about their back problems and have been very careful picking her up and not letting her jump off things. She is asleep now already.

Congratulations on your new puppy! While dachshunds are prone to back issues, particularly intervertebral disc disease (when the jelly like substance between the bones of the spine comes out and presses on the spinal cord), these issues typically arise in middle aged to older dogs. I recommend keeping a close eye on Candy Cane and having her evaluated by a vet if you notice that she is limping or not using one of her legs.
