Pet's info: Cat | Maine Coon | Male | neutered | 7 years and 1 month old | 13 lbs
Hello, Our cat had an allergic reaction to something a month and a half ago that manifested into little bumps he had on his head that he would not stop scratching and eventually opened. That issue is gone now that we've changed his food. During that time we took him to the vet twice and they gave him an anti inflammatory shot both times however, since then he has had soft stool that includes a bit of mucus and blood. Pumpkin firmed it but we started ween from pumpkin & the problem continues.

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern! Soft stool can be caused by many things and most commonly the diet and intestinal bacteria play an important role. I typically recommend adding in a probiotic such as Purina Fortiflora for cats and give this 1-2 weeks. If there is no improvement, I recommend switching to a different diet to see if this helps. I would give the new diet about 4 weeks before giving up and trying other alternatives. If the stool remains consistently soft after the probiotic and diet trial, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Theodore for further testing / treatment recommendations. There are prescription diets such as hydrolyzed protein diets that Theodore could be put on to see if the soft stool responds to a hypoallergenic diet. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.
