How to stop my parakeet from screaming when I put him in his cage?

My parakeet is screeching incessantly instead of eating when I put him back in the cage

This is probably just attention seeking behavior. Your bird would rather be with you than in his cage. When he does this, you can try covering the cage and see if that helps. Try ignoring the behavior and do not take him out of the cage until he is quiet. This way he will learn that to get to you he will need to be quiet. I hope this helps.
