My dog takes doxycycline. Is splitting the dose still effective?

i have been administering my dog his doxycyclene at the precribed dosage by my vet but i am giving him half of his dose every 12 hrs instead of all at once . will it still be effective ? he had too.many side effects when all given at once and refused to take it ...

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I actually typically recommend that doxycycline is given twice daily and it has been effective. I recommend calling your vet to make sure that the total dosage is correct and that Uzzi is still receiving the correct amount per dose. You should also let your vet know of any side effects you are seeing as they may consider a shorter course, changing antibiotics, or adding probiotics. I hope this helps and that Uzzi feels better soon!
