My dog has small hard lumps under his skin. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 4 years and 11 months old | 50 lbs

I have a medium sized dog, he's a mutt, about 50lbs, is an inside dog and is not left outside unattended. Well he was sick w severe vomiting and diahrea for 5 days and we took him to the vet she said he seemed fine she did rectal exam and good once over on him....she then prescribed some anti nausea and anti diahrea medicine and put him on a bland diet...well the diahrea and vomiting has stopped but he now has these small hard lumps on him in random places like his armpit back of neck and chest

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! These lumps are unlikely to be related to his previous gastrointestinal issue. These could be benign or malignant growths. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Good luck and have a good day!
