My dog had X-rays, but she's pregnant. Will the puppies be okay?

Hello, I’m not sure if there was supposed to be a photograph of the male dog attached to this post or not. If you have a large male who breeds with a small female, there is always a concern that she will not be able to have the puppies and will need a C-section. Any small female dog who is having puppies should have radiographs done after day 45 to see how many babies are expected. If you do not want her to have a litter, I recommend calling the veterinarian and discussing getting her spayed ASAP. Some dogs can have a shot to stop the pregnancy but there can be some serious side effects to that. Getting her spayed will eliminate an accidental pregnancy in the future. Hi Viv! Penny is a beautiful girl, and this is a great question! Yes, I absolutely recommend having her seen by a vet to get an x-ray to confirm the number of puppies she is having. That way, you will know how many to expect, and when to call the vet if they aren't making an appearance. Given that she has had previous problems giving birth, I would start saving as well for the possibly of a c-section. The puppies are small and protected by the amniotic fluid and the placentas. I would keep her at home and have your friends not bring pets to your house for the duration of her pregnancy. Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Honey is super cute! Dogs are pregnant for 60-63 days. Puppies can be seen on ultrasound around 28 days pregnant and on X-ray around 50 days. An ultrasound depends on your area. A full abdominal ultrasound in my area (east coast) is around $400 but may be cheaper if just checking for puppies. You would have to call around. Or you can wait until day 50 (from her being let outside) and have your Vet take an X-ray, which is probably only $100. Another option if you do not want puppies, is to have spayed immediately.
