Hands down the prescription formula (ie. Hill's K/D, Royal canin renal) is best because it is lower in sodium an has other additives to encourage kidney health. It is available in both dry and wet canned version, however the canned food is better because it adds more water to Twix's diet, which is best for keeping the kidney's diuresed (flushed with fluids).

In my experience, the most palatable prescription kidney diet for cat's is Hill's K/D. All of the companies that make them, which to my knowledge include Hill's, Purina, and Royal Canin, all try to accomplish the same thing with the diets; provide a meal that is low quantity, high quality protein, low phosphorus, and low sodium. This is to make life easier for failing kidneys. Your veterinarian may have sample available for you so you can kind of provide a buffet for Joseph first to see which type he'll enjoy most.

I would recommend a prescription diet for Pixie such as Hill's k/d. It has targeted levels of high quality protein, controlled phosphorus, and low sodium. I'd recommend giving her the canned version of Hill's k/d so she gets more moisture in her diet. You can get it from your vet's office.
