My dog has itchy rashes around eyes and snout. What's causing it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hi There, my dog has been getting rashes around her eyes and snout for pat two weeks now and has been itching them. Vet says around eyes it's inflamed blood vessels so we have been applying cream and drops, yet why would that be affecting her snout? can you help us find out what it could be and how we can help relieve her itching and inflamed and tender skin?

A rash with itching and hair loss around the eyes and snout is most often caused by demodectic mange, certain types of allergies, or an auto-immune disease such as pemphigus foliaceus. If things are not improving with her current treatment, I would take her back to your vet for a recheck or get a second opinion, if needed. She may need some diagnostic testing such as a skin scrape or even a biopsy of the affected skin to help diagnose the problem so that it can be treated effectively.
