My old dog's nose bleeds. Is it a sinus infection? Can I give meds?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | unneutered | 13 years and 11 months old | 150 lbs

My 14 yr. old Labrador has a sinus infection. Blood comes out of his nose some mornings. But not all day. Usually in the mirning only. I now have him sleep indoors at night ( due to cold as hell temp's as well as comfort). Since my husband and I are both disabled, we cannot afford a Veteranarian visit. I DO have the lowest dose of an RX of a common antibiotic. I was wondering if it would be safe for him if I gave it too him. Thank you so much! Julianne

Bleeding from the nose is usually not caused by a sinus infection, it could be a tumor in his nasal cavity, a foreign body or tick fever, antibiotics will not help. Contact a dog charity in your area of living, they can help with costs, but he really needs to see a vet.
