My new dog won't eat dry food but eats wet cat food. What to do?

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Terrier | Male | neutered | 20 lbs

Hi I recently have adopted a new stray Australian terrier. I'm concerned because every new dry food I give him he won't eat. But when I wasn't looking I caught him eating all of our wet cat food and that's all he eats. Plus the vet I went to told me don't give him any wet dog food. But I'm just worried cause I don't want him to starve and not eat but I don't want him eating wet cat food either.

I think you can give him wet dog food and start mixing dry food in with the wet food. At first a little , then gradually more until the wet food only coats the dry food. Do not leave the food out for him for more than 10 minutes. Whatever he has not eaten by then should be taken away. This also may make him want to eat.
