My dog has a bump near his anus after anal gland issues. Should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Pinscher | 6 years and 2 months old

My dog went in for an anal gland rupture and was put on metabolic food for his weight. After severe diarrhea and vomiting we immediately stopped the food and took him to the vet.He is now on a probiotic that seems to keep his stool normal. His anus now has a slight bump to it. I dont know if it is related to the diarrhea, the anal gland still healing.Should I be concerned or just give it time or is this normal? His weight went down with the diet and he is behaving and eating as usual.

Without seeing the lesion, it is hard to say but you could monitor it for a few days and see how it changes. If it is related to the diarrhea or anal gland problem it should get better. If you notice that it persists or becomes larger than he should be rechecked by your vet to determine the exact cause and treat the problem.

If the bump is below his anus it could be a related to the anal gland rupture or the other anal gland may be getting ready to rupture. If it is protruding from his anus it could be irritated tissue or a rectal prolapse from the diarrhea. Regardless I'd recommend making a recheck appointment with your veterinarian.
