My dog is lethargic with a painful swollen bite. Vet needed?

Hi Seth! Molly is a lovely looking girl. This pustule could be from an insect bite, it could be a cyst, or she could have injured herself causing it. It is concerning that she is acting lethargic lately, and I would have her seen by a vet first thing in the morning for it as long as she is still eating and drinking, and going to the bathroom normally. The vet can diagnose what is causing this pustule and lethargy, and can treat her for it. If she isn't eating or drinking, is extremely lethargic, or develops other signs such as vomiting and diarrhea, I would take her into a vet immediately. I hope this helps!

Hello. While it is possible that Nona was bitten on her foot by something, she could also have a more serious problem- like infection or even broken bone in her foot. When dogs are itchy they often bite their skin and cause tissue trauma and infection. This can cause moist dermatitis or "hot spots". Hot spots can be very difficult to heal, and take a long time. Ouch! Poor Maggie! That swelling around the bite is an indication of infection and looks like Maggie needs antibiotics. It also looks very painful so Maggie needs to go to a veterinarian to have it evaluated. That bite is near a joint so I would take her right away to avoid any serious infections.
