Why is my bunny leaving cecotrophes even after diet changes?

Hi, my bunny has been doing quite a few Cecotrophes, I've decreased his pellets and he hasn't been given many treats but I am still finding some around the cage, it's not as bad as it was a few days ago but I just want a way to solve the issue .

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is normal for rabbits to not consume all of their cecotrophs. As long as Blackberry is eating and drinking normally and not having diarrhea, you can continue to monitor his output. Adding additional hay to his diet may also help to make his stool a little more consistent.

Cecotropes are produced in the rabbit's cecum and are a normal part of digestion and elimination. They typically produce them at night, hence the name "night stool" and will eat them as part of the normal diet.
If the stool is excessively soft, submit a sample to your veterinarian to diagnose intestinal parasites. Feed mainly timothy hay or similar grasses. Lilly can eat as much hay as she wants. Limit pellets to about 1/8 cup daily and limit vegetables and any fruit until the stool is normal.

Cecotropes are normal, if she is eating a lot then she will also produce a lot of feces. i would recommend to buy a good quality pellets form a pet shop, continue with the hay of course and when she is over 4-5 months you can start introducing greens and veggies to her diet.

Thank you for using Boop by Petco! It is normal for Julius to have a variable amount of feces everyday. Rabbits also may consume a portion of their feces. However, if you notice that Julius is not eating, or has not defecated for over 24 hours, he may require veterinary attention.

Thank you for using Boop by Petco! The feces in the photo appears to be Stanley’s night feces. This is a normal type of feces for rabbits to make and is normally consumed directly from the anus, which is why most owners do not see it. Most rabbits eat this feces based on their vitamin needs and it can vary day to day. I recommend feeding Stanley a diet of rabbit pellets, hay, and occasional fresh fruits and veggies. Other human foods should be avoided. I hope this helps and am happy to answer any other questions you may have!

Most of hazels cecotrapes (sorry if spelt wrong) are really really small and only a little amount of them are usual size. Also her normal stools look normal but are smaller than usual (this has been happening for a few months).
Hi, you might have to take a look at any changes in the diet,decreased amount in vegetables offered or eaten, hay, any changes in the brand of pellets offered if any or in her water intake. In theory if she is eating well, and you increase the amount of fibre she eats , i.e. more hay offered the size of pellets should become larger and not so hard.. also monitor her weight and urine production. If not sure, best to have her checked over just in case she has any problems creeping up that are not very clear at the moment.. rabbits are not very good at showing symptoms !

Your bunny was probably just used to eating the lettuce and is adjusting to his new diet. You did the right thing by offering him only the pellets and hay. This is what is most beneficial to him. Since his stools are normal I would not worry at this point. If he stops passing stools, stops eating, or if you suspect he is losing weight, then you should take him to the veterinarian to be checked out. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Boop by Petco. It is not unusual for rabbits to defecate several times throughout the day - they are hind gut fermenters and therefore eat almost constantly, so they produce a lot of poop! As long as the feces is not soft/liquid, frequent passing of fecal balls is normal. If you are ever concerned that Khargi is sick or acting abnormal, Khargi should be evaluated by your veterinarian! You can always bring a fecal sample with you to the vet to be evaluated for any parasites. I hope this is helpful!

Discontinue the apples and blueberries until the stool firms up. She can have as much timothy hay, oat hay or similar grasses as she wants. Pellets should be limited to about 1/4 cup daily.
Make sure what you are seeing aren't "night stool" or cecotropes. These are normal in rabbits and they will ingest them as part of their normal diet. You can read more about cecotropes at the link below.

Review the diet to ensure proper nutrition. Offer timothy hay, oat hay or similar grasses in unlimited amounts, as much as they want to eat. About 1/8 cup of commercial pellets can be offered to each rabbit daily. 1-2 cups of fresh greens and vegetables can also be added to the diet. Clean the droppings out frequently, daily if necessary, to prevent them from eating "normal" stool. Provide a variety of toys, playtime and exercise to keep them engaged and distracted from their droppings.

No, this does not sound normal. Bunnies have two types of feces, their day feces which are round and firm, and the "night feces" which are softer and elongated/ variable shaped. If you are seeing softer feces this means either that Blackberry has diarrhea or that he is not eating his night feces (which he should). In either case he should see a vet.
