Why is my dog vomiting and having diarrhea after vacation?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Poodle | Female | spayed | 5 years and 1 month old | 34 lbs

We just went on vacation and left Merida at our house. The dog sitter said she didn’t eat much and peed at the top of the stairs. We just got back two days ago and she has been eating and drinking a lot. yesterday she pooped diaria inside the house, and last night threw up inside her crate. She hasn’t done this since she was a puppy. Just wanted to make sure it’s nothing serious. What do you think it could possibly be? Honestly, I just wanted to report it. Also, her nose is scratched.

Poor Merida! The vomit looks more like regurgitation, or indigested food. Her nose scratch may be from digging to get out of her crate. All of her symptoms may be caused by separation anxiety, especially because she is behaving differently or if this is the first time you have left her. However, this can be coincidental with parasites, an infection, or ingestion of a toxin or foreign body. I recommend keeping a close eye on her and having her seen by a vet if she develops bloody diarrhea, continues vomiting, or starts acting lethargic. You can hold off food for the rest of the day and give small amounts of water. I hope this helps!
