Why does my puppy have a raised, discolored spot on her eyelid?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Shepherd | Female | spayed | 5 months and 16 days old | 15 lbs

This discoloration appeared on the lower corner of my 5.5 month old puppy yesterday. It doesn't seem to bother her. The spot is very slightly raised. Her eyes are always crying and this hasn't seemed to increase as of noticing the spot.

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear about B. This looks like an infection or inflammation of one of the tear glands along the eyelid. I would advise warm compressing the area at least twice daily for 5 - 10 minutes to see if it comes to a head and ruptures. If that doesn't work after a few days, or it worsens, spreads, or other signs develop, then I would advise a vet check. It may need some antibiotic therapy or anti-inflammatory therapy to go away. Again, when in doubt, see your vet. Good luck
