Pet's info: Dog | Siberian Husky | Male | neutered | 4 years and 1 month old | 70 lbs
I make my own pet food and want to make sure I'm giving my dog enough protein, while also not breaking the budget. I generally give about a cup and a half of whatever meat I'm using (ground beef, turkey or chicken), and a cup of both veggies and rice. He's a 70 pound dog approximately, and I read should be consuming 1500 calories daily. Is this enough? Is there a cheaper alternative I should be made aware of? Thanks.

In my experience, home diets are very hard to do because it's very difficult to get the correct balance of nutrients a dog needs to stay healthy. That's why I never recommend them. That being said, however, I do have two websites to give to you that provide healthy and balanced diets for dogs. The recipes are created by veterinary nutritionists, so you know for sure that Calvin will be getting all the protein he needs to be healthy. Just so you are aware, at least 22% of his diet should be protein based. Be sure to check out these websites for recipes, and I hope this helps! https://secure.balanceit.com https://www.petdiets.com
