My cat cut her lip badly after a fall. Should I take her to the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 4.5 lbs

My cat, Callie needed a bath earlier because she smelled like pee. About a minute into me bathing her she made a mad jump for the window that's in the shower (it's weird). She slipped and fell right onto her face really hard, cutting her upper lip from the middle of her nose all the way down. It only took a few minutes for the bleeding to stop but she was licking it a lot. I got her dried off and she's clearly been in pain since but she's not acting really weird. This was about 2 1/2 hours ago.

The bleeding has passed and I am sure she is sore from the injury. You can make sure it stays clean and I would recommend taking her to the vet since it is deep. It is a heavy traffic area which can trap dirt and food from grooming and eating and that can lead to an infection. Generally these heal without even knowing it was there
