My old rabbit breathes loudly but seems fine. Should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Female | unspayed | 9 years and 6 months old

My rabbit is very old (over 9 years old) and had developed loud breathing. Not sure when this happened as my mum has been looking after her while I have been at uni. She is eating and drinking plenty, is a healthy weight, maybe slightly podgy, and overall seems happy. Only has loud breathing. Should I just let her live out her days?

I would have Thumper seen by a vet. It could be something as simple as a respiratory infection causing her loud breathing, which can be treated. It's best to have her checked out so she is as comfortable as possible in her advanced age. Have her seen by a vet on Monday. Good luck, I hope this helps!
