My Shih Tzu has diarrhea after starting medication, what helps?

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Female | spayed | 9 years old | 26 lbs

My shih tzu is being treated with osmeprazole after being taken off loxicom as it was causing her to have blood streaked vomit and diarrhoea. .the diarrhoea is still ongoing day 3 into d osmeprazole treatment tho...what should I do..it's cost me hundreds so far as it was an eye scratch I first sought treatment for and I am on disability myself right now

Poor girl and sorry you have had to treat Monstwr for a complication with her medication. You should try adding in a probiotic to her food daily. I only recommend Culturelle over the counter which is comparable to the pet formulated probiotics from your vet. Yogurt isn’t enough for something like this. Also add in 1-2 tsp of canned pumpkin (not the pie filling) into her food daily to give her fiber which helps bulk up the stools. If this doesn’t work after 2-4 days, then it’s best to contact your vet again for antibiotics to help correct the bacterial imbalance in her gut. The vet may even be open to calling in her medication at a local pharmacy to help with the expense and save another trip to the vet. I hope this helps her. Best of luck to you. Take care.
