My small dog ate extra kibble, threw up. Is it bloat or upset stomach?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 6 months and 23 days old | 15 lbs

My dog ate about one cup of Kibble in addition to her normal meal and we're unsure if she has dog bloat or not. She's about 10 pounds and we usually only give her one cup a day. She has thrown up a bit and we see some undigested Kibble in her throw up. She is still very playful and she's laying down easily.

Poor girl. If she had bloat she would be very ill right now. She wouldn’t be playful, and she would be barely reponsive and throwing up everything she ingests including water. She likely just has an upset stomach and ate more food than can go down in a reasonable amount of time. Continue to monitor her for continued vomiting and the symptoms mentioned above. But it is likely she will recover if she is just overfed. Just try to refrain from feeding her a meal for the next 12 hrs to allow her stomach to empty. She should be fine if she eats tomorrow with no vomiting and passes a stool tonight. Best of luck to you and take care.
