My dog chewed an ant bait trap. Is he okay? What should I do?

My dog chewed up an ant bait trap. He is acting fine. What do i need to do

While the ant bait itself is mildly toxic, the concern lies in if Tim ate the trap's plastic housing. It's possible that the plastic housing could cause an intestinal tract obstruction or damage to the GI tract . If he just chewed it and didn't eat any part of the trap itself, he should be just fine. If he did eat the plastic housing, I would monitor him for sign of obstruction and damage to the GI tract such as lethargy, anorexia, vomiting, blood in the vomit, diarrhea, and blood in the feces. If you see any of those signs, I would have Tim seen by a vet. I hope this helps!

    Ant bait is of relatively low toxicity, however any time a toxin is potentially ingested, you should contact your veterinarian. You can expect some vomiting and/or diarrhea which can usually be managed with a fast followed by a bland diet in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve. The greater concern is if he actually ingested the trap itself. This may cause internal injuries or obstructions. As long as he did not swallow the trap, he should be fine. If symptoms persist, have him examined by your veterinarian.

    That was naughty of Jager! The good news is that these have low toxicity to dogs, and if he only chewed on it and didn't ingest anything, he should be just fine. If you see any concerning signs like vomiting, anorexia, shaking, or severe lethargy, then I would have him seen by a vet but I would expect he will be ok :-)
