My dog has stinky gas for days & loose stool. Will probiotics help?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | West Highland White Terrier | Male | neutered | 7 years and 7 months old | 18 lbs

My dog has had bad smelling gas for 3 days. He is eating fine and acting fine- He has had no table scraps or got into anything— same food and treats and his stool has been a little loose but not bad. Will probiotics help? He is a 10 year old Westie.

Probiotics certainly could help and don't have any known side effects. You can also feed a bland diet (boiled chicken and rice only for 2 to 3 days) since he's having some mild diarrhea. If the problem persists, I recommend a vet visit before the weekend, so you don't end up in the ER with him over the weekend.
