My dog just had puppies and won't eat on her own. What to do?

My female pug/yorkie had puppies 7 days ago. We bought "Performatrin puppy food for small breeds". I live in Ontario Canada. I have found she likes the food, but will only eat out of my hand. Her food and water dish are in the pool (whelping box) with her. She will drink but not eat on her own. What should I do? Is there something wrong?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I would try to add water to the dry food and mix it. If that doesn’t help add a tablespoon of canned puppy food with warm water and mix it up. If she still refuses to eat I would have Gemma examined by your Vet. Hopefully she just doesn’t like the food enough to eat it with out being hand fed. You can also try a different brand of puppy food like Purina Proplan puppy. I hope this helps and I wish Gemma the best!
