My 6-month-old puppy has loose yellow stool and poops often. Is it diarrhea?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 6 months and 15 days old | 22 lbs

My 6 month old 22 lbs lab mix has yellowish loose but not watery stool, just very sticky when I picked it up, for a week, and defecates 4 times a day, used to be twice a day. Is it considered as diarrhea? Should I give him anti diarrhea liquid? He seems to act as normal though. He used to have healthy stool of brown color and good consistency, it all started when I gradually changed the diet(both grain free), but after 2 days I changed it back, it still doesn't go back to his normal stool.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! The abnormal stool can still be from inflammation from the diet change. He is also young so parasites are still possible. I would drop off a stool sample at your Vet. The picture you provided looks pretty normal to me. You can try a probiotics, I like Purina Fortiflora which you can find online. I would hold off on giving him any human anti-diarrheal medications. I hope this helps and I wish you and Pete the best!
