My cat has lumpy scabs on her head/neck. Is it stress or anxiety?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 6 years and 6 months old | 17 lbs

Hi, we left our cat for three days with plenty of water and an automatic feeder, and when we got back her head and neck had lumpy scabs on it. I just brushed her to check for fleas and it took some of the scabs off, and so I was wondering if there's something I could put on the sores to avoid infection? To our knowledge she hasn't been in contact with any ticks, parasites, etc, but she has been kinda anxious and off. Thanks!

This may be due to overgrooming from stress, a natural kalming supplement or diet such as royal canin calm can be very effective. I would not apply anything topical as she may groom and ingest it and a bath is unlikely to help! Prescription antiinflammatory medications are sometimes required
