Why is my dog's third eyelid showing? Is it a lazy eye or serious?

My dog was fine this morning but after I let him outside to pee I noticed part of his third eyelid was showing in the corner of his left eye. He looks like he has a lazy eye now and hasn’t been acting himself. Is this cause for concern? Did he scratch it? He seems to be perking up now though. There is no discharge or anything I put some antibiotic ointment on it, is that okay to do? Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 7 lbs

Elevation of the third eyelid may be an indication of an eye irritation such as from a scratch on the cornea, or it may indicate a general malaise in Pooh Bear. Without knowing exactly what kind of ointment you have, I can not recommend its use. If Pooh is feeling better, the eyelid should recede back. But if he is still feeling unwell, or you notice any discharge from the eye, swelling of the conjunctiva, squinting or see Pooh rubbing or pawing at the eye, have him seen as quickly as possible. And no more ointment in the eye for now. Take care.
