My kitten is vomiting blood and not eating. What should I do now?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 6 months and 25 days old | 7 lbs

Our female kitten, 7 months old, is vomiting blood. It started out as a foamy liquid, now it is pink. She hasn't eaten today. She was also throwing up last Monday, actual digested cat food. We thought she was better, now this. Should we taker her to the vet this weekend or wait for Monday? How do we treat her until she is seen?

I would take Tanani to the vet as soon as possible. Blood in vomit is never normal. Possible causes of vomiting include GI foreign body or blockage, ingestion of a toxin, bleeding or clotting disorder, bacterial or viral infection, intestinal parasites, etc. After examination and a discussion of her medical history, a vet may recommend bloodwork, viral testing, intestinal parasite screening, or x-rays to try to determine the cause of the bloody vomit.
