My dog is peeing blood and puppy threw up. Should I see a vet now?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed | 7 years and 1 month old | 65 lbs

Hi there. I don't know what's happening to my dogs. They are usually very healthy. Yesterday my 4 month old puppy threw up. We didn't think anything of it but she threw up again at 3am last night. This time it looked and smelled exactly like poop. She is not lethargic. She was fine before and after. Now this morning I noticed my other dog who is 7 years old was peeing out bright red blood. Should I go to the vet immediately?

These things are not necessarily related. If the puppy is fine today she probably ate something rotten and vomited it up. As long as she’s acting fine I wouldn’t worry about it. If she’s lethargic, vomiting a lot or not eating then I would bring her in for an exam. The other dog that is older and peeing blood I would have seen right away. She may have a severe urinary infection, or there may be a tumor, or bladder stones in her bladder causing that much blood. They will examine Bagheera and examine the urine under a microscope. If they find crystals or feel abnormalities in her abdomen they may recommend an X-ray or bladder ultrasound. When they get a diagnosis they can start the appropriate treatment right away. She can become anemic and this can be painful so I would bring her in right away for an exam and treatment. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Bagheera.

This does sound like an emergency. It may not be related, but I would have both your babies seen. Bloody urine can be many things from a urinary tract infection, to bladder stones, to muscle damage. A puppy with vomiting could be from so many things. On exam I would check a temperature, feel for any abdominal pain, and check for dehydration. Additional tests like x-rays may help look for foreign bodies like chewed toys that are unable to pass. I hope you get some answers.
