My cat is sneezing, licking nose, and gagging. Should I go to the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 10 months and 11 days old | 11 lbs

my cat has been sneezing and it sounded like he had a blocked nose. But nothing is coming out (from what i see). He licks his nose a lot. Then all of sudden he looked and sounded like he was about to vomit, but nothing comes out and it looked like he was trying to swallow it back down. Is it likely it's just a hairball? Should I go to the vet?

This is probably an upper respiratory infection. it's very common in young cats and is very contagious to other cats as well. is treated with oral antibiotics for about 2 weeks. I advise going to your vet asap to start the treatment right away.
