My dog won't eat, is lethargic, and chattering teeth. Vet needed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Great Dane | Male | neutered | 4 years and 7 months old | 155 lbs

We have a Great Dane who is 4 years old who wont eat anything for two days now. We tried everything even chicken and he still wont eat. Normally he jumps up when we get home and wants to go outside but now he just lays there. Also my son says he sounds like he is chattering his teeth...... I don't know if he is just sick or if its something more serious. Maybe you can help with some info or let me know what else we can do. We were gonna take him to the vet tomorrow if he isn't better.

You may want to consider taking his temperature. A normal dog temperature is around 100-102. If he is over 103 and has been this sick for a few days then you may consider taking him to an emergency clinic tonight. Otherwise I agree that he should be seen tomorrow. You might want to canvas the back yard looking for evidence of vomiting, diarrhea, or something he may have gotten into or consumed. Best of luck and I hope he improves quickly.
