My pug has yellow, mucus-like poop. When should I take her to the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pug | Female | spayed | 1 year and 1 month old | 15 lbs

My 1 year old pug has had yellow (mucus-like) bowel movements for the past 4 days. No real change in diet. Currently feeding her ground up boiled chicken with white rice. Bowel frequency has improved, but the end result is still the same. She has an appetite, energy and sleeps fine. No vomiting. Is it time to go to the vet?

Poor pup! It sounds like you've been doing the right things so far at home - feeding a bland diet often helps to resolve minor stomach issues in dogs. Since it's been four days now with no improvement, I do think it's time for a vet visit. Lucy may have some type of parasite, or a GI infection of some kind that will require prescription medication to treat. Your vet can do a fecal exam to help diagnose the problem and get her started on appropriate treatment depending on what is found.
