Why is my dog inactive, scratching ears, and shaking his head?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund | Male | 1 month and 29 days old | 4 lbs

Can ear infection be the reason why Brownie is feeling a bit inactive lately? He has been scratching his ears and shaking his head a lot from the past 2 days.

Ear infections tend to make them scratch and shake their heads a lot, but they do not tend to make them inactive. The picture that you have uploaded does not appear to be a very inflamed, but it's still possible that it is infected. It's also possible that something is stuck down in the ear canal. Considering that Brownie is showing signs of inactivity, it's best to take him to the vet doctor for a consultation. They will be able to look into the ear and help identify what is causing him to act like this. I hope that helps and Brownie gets better soon.
