Can my 4-month-old puppy sleep on my bed or sofa during the day?

Is it bad for my dog (4 months old) to sleep in the bed or sofa with me during the day?? (He sleeps on his bed at night). But sometimes he starts scratching and eating his bed during the day.

Letting Otto sleep on the bed or sofa during the day is a personal preference. I don't see anything wrong with it, and the only reason I don't let my dogs sleep on my bed at night is because they hog the entire bed and leave no room for me!

Hi there. It's fine to let him sleep in bed with you if you don't mind, and if you're a light enough sleeper to wake up during the night if he needs a potty break (which is likely!). It's normal for young puppies to be frightened or unsure about sleeping alone at first. Until today, he always slept with his littermates in a warm snuggly pile, with his mom nearby. So being by himself in a cold bed is scary, and not natural.

In my personal opinion, this is not a problem at all, i have never seen any negative effect on a puppy sleeping on it's owner's bed rather than in a crate. as long as you are comfortable with the idea that he is likely to always want to sleep on your bed in the future it's absolutely fine.

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! If all the dogs are tolerating sharing of the beds I don't think there is much to do or read in to. Since Milo doesn't normally live with you he probably isn't possessive of this bed and he is young at 10 months. Anakin must like the bed. If it bothers you then I would keep removing Anakin from Milo's bed and try to keep each dog in their respective places but it may be a losing battled unless you physically separate the dogs at night in different rooms. I wish you the best!

Is it okay if I let my puppy sleep in the bed while still crate training & potty training? As long as I still take him out to go potty in the night?
It is better not to let Doobie do that as he will get used to sleep with you and will prefer that rather than sleeping in his own place. This behaviour can then predispose to development of separation anxiety as well.

No, it won't hurt her to sleep on the bed, but I doubt she will sleep under the covers as it may get too hot for her. If you are going to have her sleep with you, I recommend waking up at least once in the night to take her out to potty. As a puppy, she might not be able to hold her bladder all through the night, and you don't want any accidents on your bed.

Unless he is exhibiting other symptoms, such as lethargy, GI upset, decreased appetite, lameness or abdominal pain, then there is likely no cause for concern. As you stated yourself, it is a new bed and it may be more comfortable than the settee for Woody.

That's a very good question! There could be various reasons Miku likes to sleep in your bed. It's comfortable, likely raised enough to provide a good vantage spot to view the rest of the room from, and most importantly, it makes her think of you, which is likely comforting to her. Congratulations on your new dog! It is possible that Coco is feeling too warm for her comfort level and therefore prefers to sleep on the cooler floor. Some dogs just have this preference. The only time it can be concerning is in larger breed heavy dogs they can develop what is called a hygroma of the elbow where they develop a fluid filled pocket due to the pressure on the thin skin near the elbow. How to make your dog to not sleep in your bed? How to get him used to his own bed?
I suggest blocking off your bed so that Oli doesn't have access to it for a few weeks. At the same time have a nice, comfy bed for Oli in the same room. You may also want to offer Oli a Kong stuffed with peanut butter or spray cheese so that can distract him in his bed. If Oli seems anxious about his new sleeping arrangement an Adaptil collar or diffuser in the room may help. Thanks for using Boop by Petco and good luck!
