My dog has an oozing neck sore. How do I clean it and is it serious?

My dog has an oozing sore on the back of her neck. I don't see any redness but it may just be because her hair is longer. She is a pit/lab mix. She is acting normal, though. How do I clean it and should I be worried?

Poor Stella! I would gently clean it with warm water and antiseptic soap. To keep her from scratching at it, you can put an Ecollar on her. You can get one at a pet store or make one at home. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and she will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it. I hope this helps!

The area in question is difficult to see in the image provided. The sore could be an infection (bacterial, fungal or parasites), trauma or an ulcerated mass. Stella would need to be physically examined by your veterinarian to positively identify the underlying cause. In the meantime, place an e-collar (cone) on her to prevent rubbing, pawing or scratching. You can use a diluted Betadine or chlorhexidine (Hibiclens) solution to clean the area daily. If there are no signs of improvement within a few days, then have her seen by your veterinarian.

Ouch! That sore does look pretty large, and if you suspect it was food-allergy related, switching back to his other food (or a different bag) is a good idea. I would continue to keep it as clean and dry as possible, and if it's not healing, or has already been there several days, bring Bear into your vet. Your vet can carefully trim the hair in the area to see how large the sore is, thoroughly clean it, and provide you with antibiotics and pain meds as needed to help the area heal and Bear feel more comfortable. In the meantime, keeping the area clean and dry, keeping Bear from rubbing or pawing at it with an E-collar or T-shirt, and keeping the site monitored is best.

My dog has a spot on the back of his neck thats a wound, but not a cut. It appears as though he is scabbing, or his skin is deteriorating into a sore spot, and draining. Will this heal, or should I take him in? (I plan to take him in tomorrow anyway,
Even though a picture would help to understand better the underlying cause, this presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking/scratching. There is an open soar under my dogs mouth. Noticed for the first time today? Any idea what it could be?

Found a sore on my dogs neck not sure if it's in to heal on it's own or if I need to take him to a vet
That heavy discharge generally indicates infection. Your pup will heal the fastest if he goes in to see his doctor. The doctor may give him a systemic antibiotic or may only give him topicals if the lesion is very small. Sometimes these pets can be itchy as well and will get medication for that too. You definitely want to make sure that he cannot itch or lick at that area as it will make it worse. The doctor will also shave the hair as it needs to be exposed to the air to dry up. I I found this on my dogs neck. Vet gave us steroids but it did not go away. It gets covered in pus so we washed it not sure what else to do. The dog doesn’t seem to be in pain even when we washed it. Any idea what it is ?

My dog has a sore on the back of her leg close to her paw. It's been bleeding and it seems to be oozing a clear fluid as well.
Ouch! Poor Lola! First thing you need to do is prevent her from licking it. If she continues to lick it will only get worse. You can place a cone collar on her to prevent this. Since it is bleeding and oozing a fluid, I am really concerned it is infected or something might be stuck in there. I would have your vet take a look at it. Your vet can properly clip and clean it and start her on the proper medicine to help her heal. They can even take an X-ray if needed. I hope this helps and she starts to feel better soon.
