Why won't my dog drink water after eating rice and chicken broth?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 10 lbs

So I was told to give my dog white rice and chicken broth because she wasn't eating but drinking a good amount of water. Now I fed her that and she's eating it but now she hasn't drank any water. What could it be?

Eris could be getting enough hydration from the chicken broth, which may be why she hasn't drank any water. You can try mixing the rice with boiled white meat chicken (no bones) instead of the chicken rice to see if that makes her start drinking water again. I hope this helps!

She is going to drink less on that bland diet because those foods hold a lot of moisture. She is getting liquid and water through the food so her intake is less. You can add chicken broth or extra water to the food to encourage her to get more if she is eating well.

You can mix the chicken and chicken broth with his dry food to see if that helps him eat more. If his appetite does not return or he is drinking more water than normal , then I would have your vet check him. This can be a sign of kidney disease or diabetes and it is best to start treatment early

Hello. I would not be too concerned. Just continue to add water, or low sodium broth to his food. You can also offer him broth or stock ( either beef or chicken ) as a source of liquids. My dog don't want to eat much and she don't want to drink
Sorry that she is having this problem. It is concerning that she won't eat or drink and she could have an infection, parasite, endocrine disease, pancreatitis, liver/kidney disease, etc. You could offer her some boiled chicken and white rice and see if she will eat. If not, have your vet examine her to determne the cause and treat. She may need an antibiotic and fluids. Hope she feels better soon!

Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco! You can try and add in chicken broth to the water to see if this entices Miaya more to drink water. You will have to regularly change the water as the broth will spoil. I would change it out every 3 hours if you are going to do this. If she continues to not drink water, I would recommend having her examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps! She most likely is not drinking because you are supplementing her with fluids. Typically it will take 1-2 days for a patient to want to start drinking again after you stop giving fluids. You can try to give her a little low sodium chicken broth or even mix water into her dogs food so she is getting more hydration. If you vet was not concerned about her hydration than she most likely Is okay. If you notice any vomiting or diarrhea I would recommend taking her back the vet for more bloodwork

She should be drinking approximately 3 cups of water a day. If she is eating canned food then it will be less than that. You can add water to her dry food, continue to add chicken broth to water or start offering small amounts of canned food with water in it. Some dogs prefer certain water bowls so you may try to switch the bowls. Some me dogs prefer cold water so you could try keeping a gallon of water in the fridge for her. Finally, some dogs prefer the water fountains that help keep the water moving and fresh. I hope this helps!

Poor Charlie! It's good that she is drinking water, so she slowly may be feeling better. I would try offering her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day. If she is still refusing to eat by tomorrow morning, then I would take her into a vet right away.

My 3 month old dog has had diarrhea all day doesn't want to eat but is drinking water what should I do
Try offering Selena some boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts. If she eats this, feed it to her for a couple of days, and then add back in her normal diet. Should she refuse to eat it, the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, she starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. my dog had 2 tumers removed yesterday and since i have brought him home he has not eaten or drank
He may still be a little nauseous from the anesthesia or medications that he received. Call your vet and give him/her an update. Your vet may want to prescribe an anti-nausea medication to see if that helps. Continue to offer him fresh water and you could also try some boiled chicken and white rice to see if he will eat that.
