HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! When a dog is in heat (period) they can have bloody vaginal discharge for up to 2 weeks. Some dogs have light bleeding while others have heavy bleeding. Dogs do not have bleeding after mating or if they are pregnant, unless they are having complications of pregnancy. I think it would be helpful to know more details: how long the bleeding have been going on? Urinary symptoms? Has she had a heat before? Has she been bred? How is she feeling? If she has been bleeding from her vulva for more than 2 weeks or is not feeling well she needs to seek veterinary care. I hope this helps and I wish Sunny the best!

Bleeding after the heat has ended is not normal. This bleeding can be a sign of either ending a pregnancy, or a uterine infection which can be life threatening. I suggest you take Daisy May to your veterinarian for a check up to make sure she is ok. If the pregnancy was ended early during the gestation, there may not be a problem or need to treat. However, if there is a uterine infection, treatment is absolutely necessary, ie either removal of the uterus, or possible hormonal treatment (not recommended as the infection will reoccur during the next heat). If Daisy Mae is drinking more water than usual, urinates more than usual, if the discharge is malodorous or if she appears to have an unusually extended abdomen, then this may point to a uterine infection. Your veterinarian will examine your dog and may want to do x-rays or an ultrasound to visualize the uterus and whether it is filled with fluid or pus. Please take Daisy May to your vet ASAP.

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I agree with you and I would be concerned. Bleeding during pregnancy is not normal. I suggest you get her to your vet for an exam. It is better to be safe than sorry in these situations. Hope this helps. Best wishes to you and Laila.
