My bearded dragon isn't eating. Is it normal for them to refuse food?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My beardie refused to eat today- I gave him veggies in the morning, that he’s had and seemed to like before, but he didn’t seem interested and then later on I offered some crickets but he didn’t want any. I tried hand feeding patiently but still nothing. He was eating fine since the day I got him. Temps/humidity is fine, he’s been pooping just fine. He has one leg that needs to shed still- I’ve been bathing him frequently- but he’s never had a problem w/ eating while shedding anyway.. thank you!

Refusal of one meal is no cause for concern, especially if he is behaving normally otherwise. Don't force him to eat. Wait until the next meal time and offer appropriately sized prey or chopped greens. Confirm proper environmental parameters again as well. If he continues to refuse food or becomes lethargic, have him examined by your veterinarian or an experienced herp veterinarian to diagnose illness or injury.
