My puppy has parvo, hasn't eaten in days. How can I help him recover?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 28 days old | 15 lbs

My puppy is 3 MO old he is an American bully. He has been fighting parvo for 5 days. He has not eaten in those 5 days. He has had diarrhea about 3 times but has been vomitting everything. I’ve been giving him pedialyte every hour. I’ve tried antibiotics and pepto bismol also but he threw it up. Today he is more energetic and hasn’t thrown up, I gave him pedialyte and a tbsp of chicken broth. Do you think he is getting better? Or how can I make him better. I really don’t want to euthanize him.

Awe... he's adorable! If Mac is is holding down the pedialyte and chicken broth now and he has lived this long he is a fighter and hopefully he will recover. Keeping him hydrated with small amounts of liquid frequently will help him recover more quickly. Next I would get some a/d prescription food from your veterinarian to add as long as he's not vomiting. It is easily digested and has lots of calories and is made to help debilitated animals recover more quickly. It is the consistency of baby food and you can put some on your finger and place it in his mouth until he starts eating. You have done an excellent job with Mac's nursing care and I hope he continues to improve. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Mac.
