My puppy won't eat his dry food. Should I switch brands or mix it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cockapoo | Male | neutered | 3 months and 2 days old | 14.5 lbs

My puppy who was eating his dry dog food for an entire month just fine just stopped eating the food cold turkey. This has been going on for a few days. Do I switch to a different brand? Do I try canned food and mix it with the dry food?

Add some warm water or a teaspoon of baby food to stimulate the appetite. Do not change foods. This can lead to gastrointestinal upset and may create a finicky eater. Dogs and puppies thrive on routine,so start a consistent schedule for feeding. Prepare food at the appointed mealtime and leave it down for 15-20 minutes. Pick it up afterwards whether he has eaten or not. Repeat at the next mealtime. Do not offer any other food between meals. Be firm and be consistent. He will not starve himself. He will eat when he is hungry.
