Why is my cat pooping bloody, hard stool with string? Vet needed?

My cat had poop outside the box hard stool with mucus and blood on it. On two occasion different weeks. I also found a thread hanging out of his anus which I cut with scissors. He seems normal to me. I have no money to take him to te get. Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | 2 years and 7 months old
