My cat has giardiasis. Is albendazole safe? What are other options?

Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Male | unneutered | 4 lbs

in case of giradiasis vet gave metronidazole for my cat.do i need to give albendazole? if yes, then please tell me the dosage.my cat likes to have tablets.i cant give him any syrup.my cats age is 8months and weighs 3.2kg.

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I would not recommend the albendazole as it has cause a bone marrow toxicosis when used in cats. Very dangerous situation. The current thinking is to treat these cats with fenbendazole & a probiotic like Purina FortFlora or Proviable KP. Check with your vet about switching to the fenbendazole. Take care.
