Cat's peeing, puking, sleeping after neuter surgery: Is it normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 1 year and 9 months old | 8 lbs

Hi! I got my cat neutered 7 hours ago. He urinated once an hour after the surgery in the crate on the way back home. After 3-4 hours he urinated again on the bed when I was away(he was drenched in urine for which I used wet wipes to clean him) and also puked a little. He is still asleep. Is this normal? The vet advises me not to feed him till morning which is 7 hours later. He said I could give him some ice cream if necessary. What do you suggest?

It is possible that Toby is still disoriented from his surgery or acting different due to the surgery. I would recommend placing him in a bathroom with a litter box and some water so he can have a dark safe area to rest. It should be fine to wait to eat until tomorrow I hope that helps
