My cat is lethargic, won't eat, and just lies there. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 1 year and 3 months old | 8 lbs

My cat is normally very friendly but yesterday I seen she was acting lethargic and won't eat and only lays in one spot in the room. Very unlike her. Lungs and stomach feel fine. Heart is slightly fast but not too bad. Any idea what could be wrong? I can't afford a vet

I am sorry Ava is not feeling well. Unfortunately Ava does need to go to a vet if she is not feeling well. A range of issues can cause her behavior from parasites, infection, virus and even trauma/toxins. The only way to determine the cause is to have a good exam and possibly test like blood work. I hope she feels better soon

If this is a change in habits I strongly recommend a full health check as withdrawn behaviour can be an indication of pain, discomfort or weakness from illness. Bullying from other cats if you have new or stray cats in the area can also cause reclusive behaviour
