Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | unneutered | 12 years and 11 months old | 10 lbs

My dog is 12 years old we came home from vacation yesterday, we were gone 3 days so I'm not sure when it popped up. He has a large lump/ knot on his rib cage it doesn't move and it's quite firm it was kind of squish yesterday, he didn't act like it hurt him yesterday but it seems to hurt him today, what could this be?

By the picture it also looks like the skin is bruised. An infection (abscess) is high on my list, but other possibilities such as a tumor are likely as well. Teeny needs to be evaluated by a veterinarian today if possible. If that is a large infection it will need to be drained and antibiotics will need to be started. Good luck! I hope he heals soon!
