My 1-year-old cat is vomiting after eating. Could it be hairballs?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 1 year and 3 months old

My 1 year old cat has started vomiting in the last few days. It only seems to be shortly after eating but it's multiple times. It is not undigested, dry food, but more liquidy partially digested. He is still drinking, playing etc. He hasn't gotten into anything or had his food changed. There is 2 other cats and they are fine. Should we try a hairball lubricant or other things?

Yes I would try giving cat laxative or another hair ball prevention product. I give this daily for several days, then weekly for maintenance. In addition brushing Luce daily will help remove the loose hair and make sure you are using a flea prevention product so he is not overgrooming due to fleas. Cats vomit more often than other animals so as long as Luce is acting normal I'm not overly concerned about it. Should this continue or he stops eating or becomes lethargic then I would bring him in for an exam. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Luce.
