Why is my senior cat suddenly clingy, meowing more, and needy?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 10 lbs

My senior cat is being a lot more lovable, meows more often and wants to go out more often. Wants more attention than normal. Even at 2am. She prefers to lay across me more often. Why?

Certainly personalities can change as cats get older, but i would recommend making sure there isn't a medical explanation for her behavior. We see conditions like hyperthyroidism (a high thyroid level) which can cause increased activity as one of its first signs. If her exam and bloodwork is all normal, it might just be a behavioral change as Princess gets older and is nothing to worry about. I hope that was helpful.
